The price of GTA VI is finally coming into focus — and it is already sparking conversation across the gaming world. After months of speculation that Rockstar’s next blockbuster could cost as much as $150, Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick has indicated the game will likely fall in the more familiar $70 to $80 range when it launches.
Zelnick made the comments during a recent interview with The Game Business whilst discussing broader monetisation strategies in gaming, including advertising. Without formally announcing a retail price, he referenced what players might expect to pay, stating it would be ‘very difficult for me to believe that we would want to have interstitial advertising in a game that someone paid 70 or 80 bucks for.’
The remark quickly circulated, with many taking it as the clearest signal yet that GTA VI will align with current AAA pricing rather than setting a new, higher benchmark.
The statement also addressed another concern tied to the game’s rollout: in-game advertisements. Zelnick pointed to existing examples in sports titles, explaining, ‘You want to see advertising in an arena, in a stadium, because you would if you were there in real life.’
However, he suggested that more intrusive formats would not fit the experience players expect from a premium title such as GTA VI.
The update arrives at a time when anticipation for the game continues to build. Rockstar Games’ parent company has already confirmed that GTA VI is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

That date has remained unchanged in recent investor communications, with Take-Two signalling confidence in its development timeline and outlining plans for a summer 2026 marketing push.
Whilst pricing speculation has now cooled, questions around timing had previously dominated the conversation. Earlier reports suggested the game was still being finalised, with development not yet reaching the ‘content complete’ stage. Industry reporting also highlighted Rockstar’s history of shifting release windows to ensure polish, as seen with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Even so, the current release date appears stable, and expectations are shifting towards upcoming promotional milestones, including the next trailer for the summer campaign. The game itself is set in the fictional state of Leonida, bringing players back to Vice City with dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
