The best restaurant in the Middle East and North Africa is going on a field trip. Khufu’s, the Giza spot that cooks with the Great Pyramids right outside its windows, is heading to Dubai for a one-night-only collaboration, and we’re here for it.

Khufu’s Executive Chef Mostafa Seif is flying in to share the kitchen at Jun’s with Chef Kelvin Cheung, Dubai’s resident master of ‘third culture’ cooking. One night, two of the region’s most talked-about chefs, and one tasting menu that brings Khufu’s modern Egyptian cooking together with Jun’s border-hopping plates.

Meet the Chefs

Seif went from cooking on his family’s liver cart as a kid to winning Top Chef Arabia in 2017. Today he runs the kitchen at Khufu’s, which in February became the first Egyptian restaurant to top MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants. His thing is Egyptian home cooking, like koshari and mu’ammar rice, done with serious technique and presented in the most unexpected way.

Cheung is a Chinese-Canadian, Chicago-raised, French-trained chef whose cooking draws on everything he’s eaten along the way. Jun’s, his Downtown restaurant, has been in the Michelin Guide Dubai every year since 2023 and is a regular on MENA’s 50 Best.

Neither chef is new to sharing a kitchen. Seif has done a four-hands dinner with two-Michelin-star Spanish chef Pere Planagumà. He closed out Cairo Food Week with a six-hands dinner alongside Portugal’s José Avillez and Trèsind Studio’s Himanshu Saini. Just last month, he hosted Dubai’s own Solemann Haddad of Moonrise at Khufu’s. The Giza-Dubai pipeline is officially open.

Cheung practically runs a collaboration series of his own. He’s teamed up with Trèsind Studio’s Himanshu Saini, Chez Wam’s Hadrien Villedieu, Amman’s Qais Malhas of Shams El Balad, and Dai Pai Dong’s Chef Dong. He’s also cooked in Egypt before, at a guest dinner on the North Coast. Now Egypt is returning the favour.

What to Expect?

The full menu is still under wraps, but expect a single collaboration tasting menu where Nile Valley flavours meet Cantonese roots and Cheung’s globe-trotting creativity. It’s one night only, so don’t sleep on it.

When? Sunday 25 October, starting 5 p.m.

Where? Jun’s, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai.
