Arab Athletes Have Won 29 Medals at the 2026 Mediterranean Games So Far

Athletes from six Arab countries have reached the podium at Taranto 2026, claiming seven gold, seven silver and 15 bronze medals as of 24 August.

Arab athletes have made a strong start to the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, collecting 29 medals during the opening days of competition.

Egypt and Tunisia currently lead the Arab medal count with eight medals each, followed by Algeria with six and Morocco with five. Lebanon and Syria have each earned one medal.

Seven Arab athletes have already won gold across swimming, fencing, wrestling, taekwondo and shooting. Egyptian swimmer Abdelrahman Sameh delivered one of the standout performances, setting a Mediterranean Games record of 23.18 seconds in the men’s 50m butterfly.

Lebanese shooter Samer Sarkis also made history by winning the men’s skeet title, giving Lebanon its first Mediterranean Games gold medal since 1991.

The Games continue until 3 September, meaning the medal count is expected to grow. Here is the full list of Arab medal winners as of 24 August.
