Some of the most recognisable names in the global contemporary art scene are auctioning their work for Palestine.
Organised by Choose Love, Gideon Berger Studio, Hope 93 Gallery, and art dealer Zayna Al-Saleh, the auction runs from March 26 to April 9, with an accompanying public exhibition at Hope 93 Gallery in London. Every pound raised goes directly to the Together For Palestine Fund, channelled into Palestinian-led organisations working on the ground.
The works up for auction reflect the range and weight of who’s involved. Es Devlin, the set designer and artist behind some of the most ambitious large-scale installations of the last decade, is contributing through Redraw The Edges Of Yourself. Grayson Perry brings Lady With Fireworks, a ceramic piece drawn from a miniature in the Wallace Collection.
Nan Goldin’s Holy Sheep, Rathmullan, Ireland, is also on the block, alongside Jeremy Deller and Ed Hall’s new collaboration The Constant Buzz Of A Drone, a title that doesn’t need much explaining given the context.
Brian Eno, who has been vocal about Gaza and previously joined a musician-led syndicate protecting artists who speak out, has a piece in the sale too. So do Palestinian artists Khaled Hourani and Nabil Anani, whose presence grounds the auction in the culture it’s raising money to protect.
The event follows last year’s Together For Palestine concert, which pulled in over £2 million for humanitarian organisations. Proceeds from this auction will fund emergency relief, covering food, water, healthcare, shelter, mental health support, and the largest orphan care programme currently operating in Gaza.
